"Guri means “Child” in Portuguese, and I wrote this song inspired by a trip I made to a nature reserve called Chapada Diamantina in Brazil. Whilst spending nine hours in a car journey through dirt roads in scorching heat, I marvel at a nine-month baby who’s sitting next to me in the car as he remains still and happy throughout the entire journey. I then see him jumping around, swimming in the river, laughing, and I wonder if I can strive to be more like him, have more peace in my heart and enjoy the simple things, as at the time I was feeling sad and exhausted. Musically I used two rhythms to express this dichotomy: samba reggae and afoxé, both rhythms from Bahia where the story took place."
